Active Surplus: The Economy of the Object was an exhibition in Winter 1987-1988 in which the participating artists were united by their desire to explore contemporary urban culture through an analysis of that culture’s objects. In each instance the artist either worked with existing objects, or alternatively, manufactured objects that simulated the sign system of the urban object.
This 48-page softcover catalogue features images of work by the exhibiting artists, as well as an essay by guest curator Bruce Grenville and profiles on each of the artists.
