Featuring documentation from Landy’s 2017 Athens exhibition Breaking News–Athens and his subsequent Toronto show DEMONSTRATION in addition to texts by both NEON and The Power Plant, this three-part publication highlights the artist’s collaborative engagement with audiences from both cities to address various social and political issues.
Landy has garnered recognition for his versatile and idiosyncratic practice, which explores notions of capitalism, commerce, value, creation, and destruction. For his Fall 2017/Winter 2018 exhibition DEMONSTRATION at The Power Plant, Landy invited the public to collaborate in building a “wall of protest” by submitting images, words, texts, and slogans that represented their thoughts and feelings—of hope or of despair, on matters small or large, from high to low, and across the cultural spectrum—to be transformed into drawings. In Breaking News–Athens, submissions from the Greek public were also transformed into drawings, creating a growing forum of exchange and an evolving collective portrait of Athens.
