Published in 2017 in connection to Thomas J Price's fourth solo show at Hales Gallery, this publication collects installation images of Price’s ongoing series of figurative sculptures. In his work, Price interrogates expectations of cultural and aesthetic value in relation to notions of monumentality, by exploring materiality in relation to racial and social identity, perception, and representation.
Featuring a throughful essay by Gabrielle Schwartz, Programme and Curatorial Advisier at Hales Gallery, this publication provides a timely contribution to increasingly urgent conversations about the histories and meanings of monuments and statues.
