For the last two decades, Alicia Henry has been exploring personal and social histories through intricate material compositions. In her layered portraits made of paper, felt, canvas and other textiles, Henry’s work reflects notions of gender and family, with depictions of faces suggesting multiple and unfixed identities. This series of original drawings, donated by Henry in support of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, exemplifies the artist’s tender and compelling approaches to portraiture.
