This limited edition photo print has been produced in connection with Dawit L. Petros’ Winter 2020 exhibition, Spazio Disponibile. Also featured as a larger work in the exhibition, the photograph references vacant advertising sections that appeared in Rivista Coloniale, a widely circulated early 20th century magazine. Spazio Disponibile translates from Italian to “Available Space” – in this work, and others in the exhibition, Petros makes connections between Italian archival material and the colonial gaze that viewed the lands of Africa as “available” space to occupy and exploit.
