In conjunction with his Summer 2016 exhibition Call to Action, Franz Erhard Walther produced a limited edition exclusively for The Power Plant. Walther's seminal work emphasizes action and sheds light on the potential of spectators to consider their body as a means to activate his sculptures and disrupt the space of display in which they are presented. The form of the blanket itself is drawn from one of Walther’s Werkzeichnungen (Work Drawings) originally created in 1969 as an outgrowth of his 1. Werksatz (First Work Set) (1963-69). The drawings imbue 1. Werksatz with a new dimension by extending and expanding the possibilities generated by the pieces, and by demonstrating the artist’s rejection of an autonomous and instantaneous artwork. As a result, Walther’s Werkzeichnungen highlights the impossibility of restricting the artist’s sculptural forms and offers a starting point for viewers to imagine how they might physically experience his work.
